casinos

A wise man once said, "you've got to spend money to make money." Enter, casinos, places where people swarm by the thousands to try and do just that; spend money to make money. Unfortunately, for the most part, people just end up spending money… lots and lots of money. In some cases, all their money. There are those who survive to become big winners: the casinos poster-children, who make anywhere from a thousand dollars to a million dollars, at the drop of a hat.

How do you make and lose money at casinos? Simple, you gamble, gamble, and gamble some more, until you have it all or nothing. Whether it's the ever-popular slot machines, the blackjack tables, high-stakes poker, craps, sports betting or Keno, casinos make it their business to have it all.

Las Vegas is the city that is most associated with casinos. Gambling is legal within Nevada, causing Las Vegas to be at the center of the gambling world. Nevada also has to offer the "Biggest Little City in the World," Reno. The other large get away, in terms of casinos, is Atlantic City in New Jersey. It can be seen as a mini-Vegas, especially since the hotels/resorts/casinos are somewhat the same in each, including Cesar's Palace, Bally's and Harrah's. Outside of legalized American casinos, are those that can be found on Indian reservations, where U.S law does not explicitly apply. There has been a surge in Indian casino gaming in the last decade, an obviously profitable venture.

It is said that casinos are designed to bring you in, and keep you in, because it is, after all, just another business, out to succeed. Casinos are set up like mazes, trying to post the exits in the most unobvious fashion. Another stereotypical point to be made regarding casinos is that there are no clocks inside. This is done in an attempt to further dislocate the casinos patrons from the outside world, in an attempt to keep them inside for as long as possible, because the more time you spend inside, the better the chances that the "house" will win.
